Hallelujah
"All I ever learned from love, is how to shoot at someone who outdrew you"
One of my favourite song lyrics ever, taken from Hallelujah, originally by the great Canadian poet-cum-singer/songwriter Leonard Cohen, but covered by a multitude of other artists. I can't help but reflect on how well that line seems to summarise my relationships. I marvel at the ability of others to come away from faded loves, waxing lyrical on its redemptive properties. Being in love has only refined my ability to hurt someone in order to buffer myself from being hurt. Which I suppose really does make it a cold and a broken hallelujah.
